Oil Intake Pipe, Replace > < Oil Return Line from Turbocharger, Replace

Oil Pan, Remove and Install

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
Important:   On vehicles with ESP - the steering angle sensor loses its basic adjustment each time the battery is disconnected. It must be recalibrated.
2.   Disconnect battery
3.   Raise vehicle
4.   Remove lower engine compartment cover / splash protection
5.   Drain coolant
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Open drain bolt

Important:   When removing the centre muffler, a catalytic converter, an exhaust manifold, or an exhaust manifold with catalytic converter, secure that portion of the exhaust system remaining on the vehicle against uncontrolled suspension. The exhaust system piece with the flex pipe inside can be secured for this purpose using suitable means, such as a wire on the vehicle underbody. Bends in the flex pipe with an angle as little as 5 – 10 degrees from the intended installation position may result in damage with subsequent total failure of the flex pipe.
6.   Remove exhaust system
•   Release clamp
7.   Remove exhaust system
•   Detach exhaust system
Note:   2nd mechanic required.
Detach 5 damper rings
8.   Drain engine oil
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Unscrew oil drain bolt
9.   Lower vehicle
10.   Detach turbocharger charge air hose (3)
•   Release clamp
•   Open quick-release fitting
11.   Detach heat exchanger coolant pipe (1)
•   Unscrew 3 bolts
•   Remove gasket.
Note:   Pay attention to exhaust manifold heat shield (2)
12.   Remove oil feed line (4)
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Unscrew 2 banjo bolts

13.   Remove oil filter housing/heat exchanger housing (1)
•   Disconnect lower radiator hose
Release clamp
•   Unscrew 4 bolts

14.   Loosen catalytic converter (1)
•   From turbocharger
•   Open retaining plate (2)
•   Unscrew 3 bolts

15.   Raise vehicle
16.   Close coolant drain bolt
17.   Screw in oil drain screw
•   Replace seal ring
•   Tighten oil drain screw 20 Nm
18.   Remove oil pan reinforcing bridge (1)
•   Unscrew 5 bolts
Note:   Note dissimilar bolt lengths
19.   Remove oil pan (4)
•   Disconnect wiring harness plug
Sensor, dynamic oil level check
•   Unscrew 13x bolt
•   Unscrew 2x nut (3)
•   Use KM-J-37228 (2)

20.   Cleaning work
•   Oil pan, base plate of cylinder block

  Install

21.   Unscrew 2 stay-bolts from timing cover
Note:   Replace stay-bolts with bolts when attaching the oil pan
Important:   Complete installation work within 10 minutes.
22.   Attach oil pan
•   Apply sealant (LOCTITE 5900)
•   Tighten 15 bolts 9 Nm
•   Connect wiring harness plug
Sensor, dynamic oil level check

23.   Attach oil pan reinforcing bridge
•   Tighten 5 bolts 30 Nm
Note:   Note dissimilar bolt lengths
24.   Fit catalytic converter
•   Fit bolt
25.   Lower vehicle
26.   Attach catalytic converter
•   To turbocharger
•   Replace gasket, retaining plate
•   Tighten 3x bolts 30 Nm
•   Fasten 3 bolts
27.   Cleaning work
•   At cylinder block
28.   Install oil filter housing / heat exchanger housing
•   Replace gasket
•   Tighten 4 bolts 9 Nm
•   Connect lower radiator hose
Fasten clamp
29.   Install turbocharger oil feed line
•   Replace 4x seal ring
•   Tighten 2 banjo bolts 15 Nm
30.   Attach heat exchanger coolant pipe
•   Replace gasket
•   Tighten 3 bolts 9 Nm
31.   Attach turbocharger charge air hose
•   Fasten clamp 3.5 Nm
•   Close quick-release fitting
32.   Raise vehicle
33.   Fasten catalytic converter
•   Tighten bolt 25 Nm
34.   Attach exhaust system
•   Fasten clamp 35 Nm
35.   Install lower engine compartment cover / splash protection
36.   Lower vehicle
37.   Connect battery
38.   Top up engine oil
•   Note prescribed quantities of engine oil and coolant
•   Start engine and allow to run until oil pressure telltale extinguishes.
•   Check engine oil level, if necessary correct.
39.   Top up and bleed cooling system LUREF_1.gif
40.   Program volatile memory
41.   Close bonnet
