Circuit/System Description
When the body control module (BCM) receives a trunk open signal,
the BCM supplies voltage to the trunk lamp control circuit. This
will illuminate the trunk lamp.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in the control circuit for the
trunk lamp.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The BCM will not illuminate the trunk lamp.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• |
The condition responsible for
setting the DTC no longer exists. |
• |
A history DTC will clear once
100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles have
occurred. |

Circuit/System Verification
Observe the driver information center while opening and closing
the trunk. The driver information center should display the trunk
ajar message only when the trunk is open.
If the driver information center displays the trunk ajar message
when a trunk is closed, refer to
Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction .
Circuit/System Testing
Note: If the liftgate is
opened after all the modules go to sleep, the dome light will not
come on. The liftgate ajar switch input to the BCM will not wake up
the BCM once it has gone to sleep, so the dome light will not come
on. Once the BCM gets an input to wake it up, from remote keyless
entry or a door handle, the dome light will turn on when the
liftgate is opened.
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the
harness connector at the E8S Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp.
|
2. |
Test for less than 5 Ω
between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground. |
⇒ |
If greater than the specified range, test the
ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
3. |
Connect a test lamp between
the E8S Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp control circuit terminal 1
and ground. |
4. |
The test lamp should be ON
when the rear compartment is open and OFF when the rear compartment
is closed. |
⇒ |
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control
circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal,
replace the K9 Body Control Module. |
⇒ |
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control
circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the
circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module. |
5. |
If all circuits test normal,
replace the E8S Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic
procedure.
