Diagnostic Trouble Code Storage Condition

Internal Motor Circuit Malfunction

• Engine starting
• The voltage in the motor circuit is implausible.

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Temperature Sensor Short Circuit

• The ascertained Control Unit temperature is out of range.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is switched off.

Temperature Sensor Open Circuit

• The ascertained Control Unit temperature is out of range.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Overheat Protection Mode Active

• Ignition ON
• The internal Control Unit temperature is for at least 0.1 s greater than 122 °C (252 °F).

or

• Engine running
• The internal Control Unit temperature is for at least 0.1 s greater than 130 °C (266 °F).

Effect:

• The steering boost is switched off.

Battery Voltage High

• The voltage at the control unit input (terminal RD ) is greater than 16 V .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is decreased step-wise.

Recovery Condition:

The trouble code is deleted, after the system was switched on 60 times and there was no fault recognised.

Battery Voltage Low

• The voltage at the control unit input (terminal RD ) is less than 9 V .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.3 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is decreased step-wise.

Recovery Condition:

The trouble code is deleted, after the system was switched on 60 times and there was no fault recognised.

Engine Running Signal (D+) Intermittent

• Engine running
• Intermittent problems to control unit terminal 5 (X12)
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is increased step-wise.

Recovery Condition:

The trouble code is deleted, after the system was switched on 1 times and there was no fault recognised.

Engine Running Signal (D+) No Signal

• Engine running
• Short to ground or interruption in circuit to control unit terminal 5 (X12)
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is decreased step-wise.

Recovery Condition:

The trouble code is deleted, after the system was switched on 1 times and there was no fault recognised.

Motor Lock Protection Active

• Control unit temperature is greater than 63 °C (145 °F)
• Actual motor current is greater than 20 A
• Engine speed is less than 100 rpm

Effect:

• The current is limited to 20 A .

Recovery Condition:

The trouble code is deleted, after the system was switched on 60 times and there was no fault recognised.

Motor High Current

• Ignition ON
• Engine running
• Actual motor current is greater than 75 A
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 1 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is switched off.

Motor Speed Invalid Signal

• Sensor signal is out of range
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.2 s .

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Motor Low Current

• Engine starting
• Actual motor current is less than 11 A

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Battery Voltage Range/Performance

• The voltage measurement results an implausible value.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.1 s .

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Replace Electronic Control Unit (ECU)

• Control unit software/hardware failure
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is switched off.

Replace Electronic Control Unit (ECU) - EEPROM Failure

• Control unit software/hardware failure
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0 s .

Effect:

• No steering boost function

Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Internal Fault

• Control unit software/hardware failure
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0 s .

Effect:

• The steering boost is switched off.

Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Internal Fault

• Engine starting
• Control unit software/hardware failure
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0 s .

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.

Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Fault - Random Access Memory (RAM)

• Engine starting
• Control unit software/hardware failure
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0 s .

Effect:

• The system function is not affected.
